The American rapper A $ AP Rocky, arrested in early July in Stockholm after a fight, imprisoned for five weeks, and whose trial has mobilized the entire world of hip-hop, not to mention Donald Trump. The judgment fell today: the thirty-year-old star was convicted, but will not have to return to Sweden to serve a prison sentence.

For Swedish justice, A $ AP Rocky is guilty with two of his bodyguards of assaulting a young Afghan refugee. But he receives only a suspended sentence, with payment of damages to the victim of 12,500 crowns (€ 1,200). The prosecution had required six months in prison, the defense had claimed the release , citing self-defense.

This is good news for the New York rapper whose case has hit the headlines during this summer 2019. Following a fight in the streets of Stockholm , immortalized in many videos, A $ AP Rocky had to spend five weeks in prison until his trial. The latter, which lasted three days in early August, mobilized the entire American hip-hop community, but also Donald Trump , who had even asked the Swedish Prime Minister to intervene on his behalf.

A " humiliating " experience for the rapper

Released at the end of the trial, A $ AP Rocky had immediately joined California aboard a private jet. He was therefore not present today in Stockholm, and will not have to return to Swedish jails, an experience he described as " frightening and humiliating ".

A reaction judged by the Swedes somewhat excessive, especially as ASAP Rocky has in his youth already spent two weeks in the largest and most old prison in New York, Rikers Island, whose prisoners rarely keep a good memory.
