Ministers discussed the situation in South Asia amid escalating Pakistan-India relations following a decision in New Delhi to change the legal status of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The Russian side emphasized the need to de-escalate tensions and to have no alternative to resolving the differences between Pakistan and India on a bilateral basis by political and diplomatic means,” the foreign ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry added that such a consistent position is also held by Russian representatives in the UN.
Earlier, Pakistan requested a meeting of the UN Security Council on Kashmir.
