“On August 13, the Latvian government passed a law according to which a multilingual education system will be translated into Latvian. The language pressure policy on national minorities is detrimental to their identity and contrary to Riga’s international obligations, ”the Permanent Mission said on Twitter.

In the middle of June, in the Latvian city of Liepaja, the 2nd Alexander Pushkin Secondary School was renamed the “Liedaga School”.

In April, the Constitutional Court of Latvia recognized the decision to transfer schools of national minorities, including Russian, into the Latvian language of instruction as lawful.
