Driven-by motorist arrested after a fatal collision in Rotterdam

The cyclist who was hit by a car in Rotterdam on Tuesday evening died of his injuries. The driver of the vehicle had driven on after the collision, but has since been arrested.


The cyclist who was hit by a car in Rotterdam on Tuesday evening died of his injuries. The driver of the vehicle had driven on after the collision, but has since been arrested.

The incident took place around 21:30 on Claes de Vrieselaan in Middelland, after which several ambulances and a trauma helicopter were summoned.

The 39-year-old victim from Rotterdam was taken to the hospital in a serious condition, where he later died.

With the help of witnesses and camera images, the police were able to determine that the car in question had driven to Witte van Heemstedestraat. The damaged vehicle was found around 3.30 in the Overschie district. The police then arrested a 38-year-old man.
