The US Federal Aviation Administration has banned certain models of Apple's MacBook Pro laptops on flights after the company recalled selected units containing batteries that could pose a fire risk.

"The Federal Aviation Administration has withheld the recalled batteries that are being used on some Apple Mac Pro laptops," the agency said in an e-mailed statement.

Apple said in June it would pull a limited number of 15-inch MacBook Pro units because its batteries were vulnerable to overheating. The units called up were sold between September 2015 and February 2017.

Apple did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.
