The words of the Permanent Representative of Great Britain to the UN, Karen Pierce, about the “desperate situation” of Ukrainians in Crimea do not correspond to reality. This was in an interview with RT, said Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Viktor Vodolatsky. In his opinion, such statements reflect a negative attitude towards the Russian Federation.

“The various insinuations that take place at the UN site are associated with a destructive and negative attitude towards our country. Constant fake news that excites the Western media is being thrown in, ”Volodatsky explained.

He also stressed that the Crimean authorities repeatedly invited the Ukrainian president and representatives of various international organizations so that they could personally verify the interests of all residents of the peninsula.

“Not only the leadership of the Crimea, but also the residents themselves are inviting Zelensky, the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, and the representatives of the OSCE and the UN to come to the territory of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol and make sure. And we talked with those people who have Russian citizenship, Ukrainian citizenship, ”the parliamentarian added.

At the same time, he recalled that in Crimea, Russian, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar languages are used on an equal level. As for social services, they are provided to everyone, regardless of their passport, Volodatsky specified.

Among the oppressed

Earlier, British Permanent Representative to the UN Karen Pearce said that Ukrainians in Crimea were allegedly deprived of the opportunity to receive “basic services”.

“I want to draw attention to specific regions where the situation with international humanitarian law is desperate. This is Ukraine, since Ukrainian Crimean citizens are denied access to basic services because they have not changed their citizenship, ”the British diplomat said at a meeting of the UN Security Council.

Moreover, she put the allegedly observed situation in the republic on a par with non-compliance with international humanitarian law in countries such as Mali, South Sudan and Syria.

At the same time, the acting representative at the same time indicated the unreasonable claims of the representative of Great Britain Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky. He reminded his colleague that in the Crimea, which is part of Russia, military operations are not conducted, therefore, it is unlawful to talk about the application of international humanitarian law on the peninsula.

“You apparently have some outdated information or you are poorly trained. There is no armed conflict on the territory of our country, therefore, talking about international humanitarian law in relation to our country is inappropriate, ”said the Russian diplomat.

Indiscriminate accusations

Speculative statements Karen Pierce and stressed in the Crimea. So, according to Vladislav Ganzhara, a deputy of the State Council of the Republic, the rights of national minorities on the peninsula are a favorite topic of Western representatives.

“Of course, this is another speculative statement, in this case, the British representatives. In general, the rights of various national minorities - Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars - regularly become the topic of speculation on various international platforms, ”Ganzhara explained in an interview with RT.

The parliamentarian said that all the necessary conditions were created in the region to support the equal rights of all nationalities of Crimea.

“The Ukrainian language is the state language according to the Constitution (Republic of Crimea. - RT ). We are actively working with various public organizations that unite Ukrainians, in particular, the Ukrainian Crimean Community. In terms of supporting Ukrainian culture and language, many events are held. In this regard, they have the same rights as other nationalities living on the peninsula, ”said Ganjara.

The same point of view was expressed by the First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, Vladimir Dzhabarov, who noted that Pierce's statement had a specific goal - to mislead the world community.

“Social issues in the Crimea are provided in full. This is nonsense, designed to again mislead the world community. I don’t know why the British are doing such nonsense. Was she there? Let him go, talk to people. They will let her in, no one forbids visiting Crimea. Let the journalists go, ”he told RT.

Double standards

At the same time, as Vladislav Ganzhara recalled, in Ukraine the rights of the Russian-speaking diaspora are regularly oppressed. However, the European community prefers to ignore this fact.

“Once again, the cynicism of such statements is striking when we see today how Ukraine oppresses the rights of Russian-speaking residents, who make up a large part of the population of Ukraine. Bills are introduced there at the level of the Verkhovna Rada prohibiting the use of the Russian language. And there is no reaction to this either by the British, or the Americans, or other international structures, ”the deputy concluded.

Crimea became the Russian region after a referendum held in March 2014, in which most residents spoke out for reunification with Russia. Moscow emphasized that the referendum was held in accordance with international law and fully reflects the opinion of the region’s inhabitants. In this regard, further discussion about the ownership of the peninsula is closed completely.

“The question of the reunification of Crimea is closed completely, whether someone likes it or not,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in April. “No declarations by Washington, the European Union or NATO can change this situation, either from a legal or political point of view.”
