The first conclusions of the investigation into the death of the American billionaire for raping minors reveal dysfunctions in the prison where he was awaiting trial.

At Metropolitan Federal Prison in New York, officials have accumulated the shortcomings. According to the US media, Jeffrey Epstein was placed alone in his cell, while the detainees are supposed to be two. The surveillance rounds scheduled every 30 minutes would also not have been respected. And according to the New York Times , one of the two guards in charge of his surveillance would not even be a regular prison guard.

At a press conference Monday, US Justice Minister William Barr said he was appalled. " I am furious to learn of this prison's inability to properly guarantee the prisoner's safety. We are discovering serious and very serious irregularities that require a thorough investigation , "he said.

Jeffrey Epstein, 66, was found dead on Saturday morning after apparently killing himself. The results of the autopsy have not yet been released. The American billionaire was at the heart of a vast scandal, prosecuted for sex trafficking and multiple attacks on minors. He was risking up to 45 years in prison.

The Minister of Justice once again promised that investigations would continue to condemn all possible accomplices of Jeffrey Epstein and for the victims to obtain justice. " No accomplice will sleep quietly, " he assured.
