August 13, 2019The Hong Kong airport has announced that it has canceled all the scheduled flights for today. It is the second day of departure and arrival cancellations, after yesterday's. Thousands of demonstrators are protesting even today in the airport and have blocked the entrance to the check-in desks.

The pro-democracy demonstrators also blocked the corridors leading to the two terminal boarding areas, but dozens of passengers had nevertheless managed to pass.

Executive leader Carrie Lam: close to the point of no return
The head of the Hong Kong executive, Carrie Lam, issued a warning to the anti-government protesters, asking them not to push the city towards the "abyss". Hong Kong, said Lam during a press conference, "reached a dangerous situation" and further violence could bring it to the "point of no return". His appeal, however, remained unheeded.

Armored vehicles of the Chinese police near the border
A convoy of armored vehicles of the Chinese police is located at a sports center in the city of Shenzhen, on the border with Hong Kong. The South China Morning Post writes this, pointing out that this fact raises concerns about the possibility that Beijing could intervene directly in the political crisis of the former British colony. Yesterday the People's Daily, the newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, said that the autocolonna was on the move for a large-scale exercise.

United Nations calls for impartial investigations into the violence
The United Nations has expressed concerns about the force used against the protesters during the massive protests in Hong Kong and called for an impartial investigation.
