Lycksele municipality is one of 25 Sami administrative municipalities in the country. Before the autumn, the idea was to start a Sami preschool department in the municipality, but the plan burst at the last moment, something Folkbladet was the first to report on.

- Unfortunately we did not get the staff we need to get started. If you want to make such an investment, we need bilingual staff with anchoring in the culture and with experience in preschool, says Samuel Lundström, head of school in Lycksele municipality.

"Just waiting for the right time"

Lundström believes that the preschool must be bilingual because there are not enough children with a Sami background in the municipality. The solution instead is to bring in an employee to teach Sami teaching two days a week at Rusksele preschool.

- I think we were in a good position to be able to do something good out of it all, and we had good staff in progress who unfortunately pulled out at the last minute. But when things don't go as planned, you have to take the second best option, says Lundström.

- We have not put the plans on ice for all time, but we are just waiting for the right time. If there are staff and interested parents, we will try again.
