The Iranian Shipping and Ports Corporation expected the release of the Iranian tanker Grace 1, saying that Britain had expressed its desire to do so, while linking the fate of the British tanker detained in Iran to the decision of the Iranian judiciary.

"Britain is interested in the release of the Iranian oil tanker Grace 1 following the exchange of some documents. We hope that the release will be made soon," said Jalil Islami, deputy head of the Ports and Maritime Corporation.

Islami said that the fate of the British tanker detained in Iran depends on the decision of the Iranian judiciary, and that the United States failed to form a security alliance in the Gulf waters, and that Tehran was and continues to provide security in the waters of the Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

The semi-official Fars news agency said the Gibraltar authorities had confirmed that the Grace 1 would be released by Tuesday evening.

In return, a senior source in the government of Gibraltar denied what Fars reported leaving the tanker today, according to Reuters.

Reuters quoted a spokesman for the Gibraltar authorities that the file of the detention of the Iranian tanker will end on Saturday evening, stressing that the authorities continue to seek to defuse tensions with Tehran since the detention of the tanker on July 4.

On July 4, the British Royal Marines seized the Iranian oil tanker off the Mediterranean coast of Gibraltar on suspicion of transporting oil to the Syrian regime, in violation of EU sanctions.

On July 19, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards seized the British-flagged tanker Stena Impero in the Strait of Hormuz, saying it violated international shipping rules, while London saw it as a "piracy".
