The Chukotka Autonomous Okrug is in first place in the number of cases of viral hepatitis, where at the end of 2018 the incidence rate amounted to 3546.2 cases per 100 thousand population.

In second place is the Magadan Region - 2068.8 cases per 100 thousand people.

Next come the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (1863 cases per 100 thousand people), Yakutia (1773.8) and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (1641.1).

The lowest incidence of viral hepatitis was recorded in the Lipetsk region (50.6 cases per 100 thousand people), Kalmykia (147.4), Chechnya (171.5), Dagestan (174.4) and Ingushetia (180.9).

In total, in 2018, 916,884 people with viral hepatitis lived in Russia (24.1 thousand more than in 2017). Of these, 83.6 thousand are the first cases detected in 2018.

The incidence rate in the whole country in 2018 amounted to 624.2 cases per 100 thousand people (in 2017 - 607.9 cases).

According to World Health Organization terminology, viral hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver caused by one of the five hepatitis viruses: A, B, C, D and E.

Earlier, the Rospotrebnadzor said that the incidence of acute hepatitis B and C in Russia in 2018 reached a historic low.
