  • Italy. The 5 Star Movement teams up with former Prime Minister Renzi to stop Salvini

The lack of agreement of the Italian parties on how to resolve the government crisis following the motion of censure presented by the ultra-right-wing League , has caused that the Senate on Monday has not decided the date of this session and that voices are emerging that bet to truncate the aspiration of the leader of that party, Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, to go to immediate elections .

On Monday the spokesmen of the parliamentary groups in the Senate met and had to decide unanimously the date of the vote of the motion of censure against the Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, but there has been no agreement, sources of the high camera.

The same sources detailed that it will be on Tuesday the senators who are present in Rome and those who vote on a date have not gone on vacation . They will also have to set the day on which Conte will go to this chamber to offer an intervention, which may coincide with the motion, according to the aforementioned sources.

The Italian political parties do not agree on how to resolve the chaos that Salvini has caused in the middle of summer and that could lead the country to early elections in the fall, something that did not happen since 1919, the Five Star leader and minister of Work, Luigi Di Maio, in a video on social networks.

Moved by his eagerness to reach the Headquarters of the Government, Salvini has withdrawn his confidence in the alliance he had with the Five Stars , with Parliament closed for vacations and without knowing in the country what calendar to stick to.

Uncertainty has taken over Italy after Salvini's order, which will not necessarily lead the country to early elections, as the president of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella , could try to form another government with a parliamentary majority or appoint one, of a technical nature and provisional.

In addition, the polls give Salvini a 36% intention to vote, but in the generals of March 2018 he obtained 17% of the votes, which is a minority in Parliament.

The Five Stars and the Democratic Party, united, could ruin Salvini's dreams and allow the Conte Executive to continue or even promote another that has the mutual approval.

The PD, therefore, has in its hand the key to decide the future of Italy and that is why in recent days a division has been generated between the current closest to former Prime Minister Matteo Renz i, who supports a parliamentary unity government , and critics with his figure, who want elections not to continue giving wings to the leader of the League.

For his part, Di Maio , has stated that his training is favorable to the call for elections, but first seeks to approve a reduction in the number of parliamentarians , which is one of his star promises and that he would postpone the polls at least until the spring of the year next.

This Monday he took the opportunity to send a message to his electorate by saying that the Five Stars does not want to reach agreements with Renzi, aware of the inconsistency that would be a pact with a politician who has blamed that the current economic situation in Italy is due to His management as prime minister.

And it is that Renzi in the last hours has extended a hand to the Five Stars when suggesting a unity government that, among other things, approves this reform of the number of seats.

That is why Di Maio wanted to move away from any link with Renzi on Monday and used a dialectical argument to underline that he is only interested in pacts with all senators and deputies who want to join this initiative, something that in the country has been interpreted as a opening towards the members of the PD related to Renzi.

Renzi still has great power within the PD, since the current parliamentarians have left the lists that he himself drew up while he was still secretary of the party and that is why, although he no longer has any responsibility, he is generating a division in the formation that does not National leadership likes.

"It is not credible the hypothesis of an Executive (provisional) to prepare the Budgets and go to the elections later, it would be a gift to a very dangerous right that we all want to stop," insisted on Monday the secretary general of the PD, Nicola Zingaretti .

In addition to the full Senate, tomorrow the speakers of the parliamentary groups in the Chamber of Deputies must meet in parallel to agree on a date for the motion of censure of Conte in this chamber.
