While the truce was partially Sunday in Tripoli following the call of the UN for the feast of al-Adha, the Libyan National Army of Marshal Haftar conducted a new operation in the South, in Morzouk, a city in prey to violence for two weeks.

The ensuing violence has killed dozens of people. According to the UN, 2,150 people had to flee the city. On 4 August, Marshal Khalifa Haftar's forces carried out air strikes, killing 43 people. Chadian mercenaries according to the Libyan National Army (ANL), civilians according to members of the Toubou ethnic group of Morzouk.

Sunday morning, while the Eid al-Adha prayer was being heard in the oasis, the ANL, with forces from the South, had finished entering some parts of the city. But fights broke out again Sunday on the one hand, the ANL and local faithful, on the other, armed groups supported by local Toubou. According to Khaled al-Mahjoub, a general of the ANL, they are " members of the Islamic State organization, the Benghazi Shura Council and Chadian mercenaries ". This general says that many terrorists have fled Morzouk.

Fighting which mainly reflects the insecurity that reigns in this oasis located in the South, near the Chadian border, since 2011. The city escapes indeed to the authority of the State. Torn apart, she finds herself at the mercy of armed groups.

Fighting was still going on Monday in some parts of the old city and around the citadel.
