Rockets were fired on Sunday (August 11th) towards Mitiga airport, a few kilometers east of Tripoli. A new attack that breaks the temporary truce negotiated by the UN.

It was a first. On the occasion of Eid, all the forces involved had accepted the UN's request to lay down their arms for two days. No military operation should have taken place in the suburbs of Tripoli.

The humanitarian truce was to extend until 15h on Monday. But the cessation of fighting finally lasted only 24 hours. On Sunday, unidentified rocket attacks targeted Mitiga, a former military platform used for civilian traffic to replace Tripoli International Airport, closed since 2014. For now, the origin of Sunday attacks remains unknown. The belligerents accused each other of being the author.

In the eastern suburbs of the Libyan capital, this airport, the only still functional in the city, is now closed until further notice, writes his direction on Facebook. It is located in an area controlled by the UN-recognized National Unity Government (GNA). Their troops still hinder those of Marshal Khalifa Haftar. The self-proclaimed Libyan army of Marshal forces launched an offensive on Tripoli four months ago. Since then Mitiga has been frequently shot.
