- I hope this trend is broken, because it is important for very many that you get the chance to make a personal goodbye, says Lars-Olof Uleander, owner of Orsa Funeral Home.

He believes that there is a risk that many will be ill if there is no funeral.

- The grief risks being left untreated when you don't say goodbye. The actual burial act is for the congregation to recognize the deceased through song and music and how the priest places his speech.

Significant increase in just one year

In Dalarna, it was most common with direct burial in 2018 throughout Sweden. And Lars-Olof Uleander believes that he has noticed this trend as clearly the last three or four years at his agency in Orsa. There it increased by twice as much from 2017 to 2018.

A survey conducted by SVT Dalarna also shows that it has increased at several other funeral homes in the county.
