The announcement of the accidental death of the Ivorian singer DJ Arafat, Monday, August 12, caused turmoil in his country. Thousands of fans rushed to the Deux-Plateaux clinic in Abidjan, where he was hospitalized after his motorcycle accident. When his death was confirmed, it was a big part of the Ivorian cultural scene, where the star of the coupé-décalé occupied a prominent place, which paid tribute to him.

"We are all in shock," said Ickx Fontaine, an Ivorian producer and hip hop specialist. DJ Arafat was "at the top level for fifteen years and his first tube 'Jonathan'".

For Ozone, a hip hop producer and TV host, the singer was "a monument to Ivorian music". "He had a natural charisma [...] He will remain a force for Ivorian and African music," he told AFP.
