Preview: DFB Cup on Sunday: Where threaten the favorites stumbling blocks?
TIME ONLINE | News, backgrounds and debates
Berlin (dpa) - Twelve first-round games are in the DFB Cup today. Six Bundesliga sides have to assert that their opponents want to become a cup fright.
For Eintracht Frankfurt, the atmosphere in the third division team from Mannheim could be uncomfortable and SC Paderborn should not underestimate regional division SV Rödinghausen.
Waldhof Mannheim - Eintracht Frankfurt
SITUATION: Frankfurt is already in the game rhythm after three games in the Europa League qualifiers. With the return of goalkeeper Kevin Trapp and the recently injured Ante Rebic coach Adi Hütter has virtually all options.
SPECIAL: As a defending champion lost the Eintracht last year at fourth division Ulm. Such a scenario should not occur this time. Sport Board Fredi Bobic estimates Waldhof stronger than the FC Vaduz (5: 0).
STOLPER FACTOR: Absolutely available. Before sold-out house, the third division is an uncomfortable task. The concord has to find again especially in the offensive after a few disposals.
VfL Osnabrück - RB Leipzig
SITUATION: Leipzig will probably have to do without three regular players. Kevin Kampl (ankle), Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Halstenberg (knee) are unlikely to play. Add to that the weak test-play balance with only two wins out of five games.
SPECIAL: For Julian Nagelsmann it is the first competitive game as an RB coach. The 32-year-old wants to underpin his ambitions with a victory and is also under pressure, as Leipzig starts as last year's finalist in the Cup.
STOLPER FACTOR: Rather low. Despite the injury worries, Leipzig is individually so well staffed that Osnabrück should not be a hurdle. Nagelsmann worked hard during the week on weak podium finishes in the last two tests against Aston Villa.
Germania Halberstadt - 1st FC Union Berlin
SITUATION: Twelve new players had to integrate coach Urs Fischer in the good five weeks of preparation. In central defense, there are some question marks. New signing Neven Subotic could be first for the Köpenicker his compulsory game.
SPECIAL: The Union fans are hot on the season. 2000 followers will travel to the Harz Mountains and provide a home play atmosphere. The Berliners play for the first time in the Bundesliga and home tickets are almost impossible to get. Since the DFB Cup is just right.
STOLPER FACTOR: Rather minimal. Halberstadt is currently only eighth in the Regionalliga Nordost and won only one of three games. Coach Urs Fischer demanded despite the clear role of favorites, however, full concentration of his pros.
VfB Eichstätt - Hertha BSC
SITUATION: The new coach Ante Covic has tried in the preparation of a lot of personnel and tactics, which should already be seen in the Cup. Arne Maier, Javairo Dilrosun, new signing Dedryck Boyata and Peter Pekarik are injured. Record Purchase Dodi Lukebakio is on hold.
SPECIAL: Covic sees in his first competitive match as a head coach equal to a very important: "Since you can not make up for it afterwards." Meticulously, he has prepared his team for the opponent from the Bavarian Regionalliga.
STOLPER FACTOR: Small. Covic has made it clear to his players that the Bundesliga start at Bayern five days after the cup match is not allowed to play any role at all. Hertha has been working intensively on the weakness in the test matches in standards this week.
SV Rödinghausen - SC Paderborn 07
SITUATION: Ten newcomers have Paderborn fetched after the Bundesliga promotion, five of them are expected in the Cup in the Erstself. In preparation, the SCP had mainly problems on the defensive.
SPECIAL: The game has Derby character. Rödinghausen is just a little over 80 kilometers from Paderborn, also in East Westphalia.
STOLPER FACTOR: Not to be underestimated. Rödinghausen is an ambitious regional all-star and, unlike Paderborn, has already played two games of the season (both won).
SV Wehen Wiesbaden - 1. FC Cologne
SITUATION: For second division promoted SV Wehen it is already the third competitive match. In league two the Hessen lost the first two games. Emerging Cologne denies his first competitive match before the Bundesliga kick-off.
SPECIAL: Cologne's new coach Achim Beierlorzer is facing his first test. His newly appointed captain Jonas Hector is to lead the Domstädter to victory.
STOLPER FACTOR: Absolutely available. The BRITA-Arena in Wiesbaden is sold out with 8000 spectators. The SV Wehen hopes for tailwind by the fans against the Bundesliga returnees.
