11 August 2019An area of low pressure on Western Europe affects, albeit marginally, the northern regions of our country, causing a marked instability close to the alpine sectors. Precipitation, mainly stormy, will be locally intense and will particularly affect the Valle d'Aosta and the alpine areas of Piedmont and Lombardy and subsequently of the Veneto, with possible involvement of the neighboring plains.

On the basis of the available forecasts, the Civil Protection Department in agreement with the regions involved - which are responsible for the activation of the civil protection systems in the territories concerned - has issued a notice of adverse weather conditions. The weather phenomena, impacting on the different areas of the country, could determine hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities which are reported, in a national summary, in the national criticality and alert bulletin that can be consulted on the Department website .

From the late afternoon of Sunday 11th August 2019, the warning provides for precipitation with a predominant reverse or thunderstorm character on Valle d'Aosta, Piedmont and Lombardy, in extension from Monday afternoon to Veneto. The phenomena will be accompanied by heavy rain showers, frequent electrical activity, local hailstorms and strong gusts of wind.

On the basis of the phenomena envisaged and in progress, it was evaluated for Monday 12 August, an orange alert for thunderstorm risk on the western alpine areas of Lombardy and a yellow alert on Valle d'Aosta, part of Piedmont, Lombardy and Veneto.

The meteorological and critical situation forecast for Italy is updated daily based on the new forecasts and the evolution of the phenomena, and is available on the website of the Civil Protection Department , together with the general rules of behavior to be kept in case of bad weather. Information on regional alert levels, specific criticalities that could affect individual territories and the prevention actions taken are managed by the territorial civil protection structures, in contact with which the Department will follow the evolution of the situation.
