• Catalonia: 30,000 euros are stolen from members of the Qatari royal family in a hotel in Barcelona

On June 29, members of the Qatari royal family who were staying in a hotel on the Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona suffered a robbery in the room, specifically objects worth about 40,000 euros, including a luxury watch, jewelry and money. The Mossos d'Esquadra took over the investigation and have been able to identify the suspect. This is a 35-year-old man with Algerian nationality who is being held in preventive detention in Lausanne (Switzerland) for similar crimes committed in that country. Agents also pay him four more robberies in luxury hotels in Barcelona in the last four years.

Thanks to the collaboration of various European police forces, investigators have been able to resolve these robberies and identify the suspect who allegedly always acted in the same way: he waited for his victims to leave the room to approach the reception and impersonate a relative to get a copy of the key and thus be able to enter.

The Mossos detail that he earned the trust of employees with deception and thus achieved his goal. The agents were able to identify the suspect thanks to the video surveillance cameras since in an alleged robbery committed in Zurich in July he wore the same clothes as in the abduction at the hotel where the Qatari family was staying in Barcelona. That is why they emphasize the importance of police collaboration.

The suspect is in pretrial detention in a prison in Lausanne waiting to be tried in Switzerland for other similar robberies committed in that country and others have an open cause in the courts of Barcelona for five robberies with force.
