The stormy wind that rages across the Netherlands on Saturday causes a lot of inconvenience. For example, the dyke between Enkhuizen and Lelystad has been closed and fewer trains are running for hours. Various events have also been canceled and the Rescue Brigade advises people not to go on or in the water. In Linschoten, a 58-year-old man from Lopik died after falling under a falling tree.
A second cyclist remained unharmed. The reason why the tree fell and what preceded it is still being investigated, writes Security Region Utrecht. The accident happened on the Haardijk in the Utrecht city.
Because of the stormy wind, there is a lot of sand on the carriageways on the Houtribdijk between Enkhuizen and Lelystad. Because that needs to be cleaned up, the road remains closed until the end of the day.
As a precaution, the NS uses fewer intercity trains between Alkmaar and Zaandam. "Due to the strong wind, we are adjusting the timetable in the northwest of the country," the Dutch Railways report. "Nevertheless, the weather conditions can lead to extra inconvenience for train passengers."
Multiple events have been canceled due to the turbulent weather. Especially in the coastal provinces, organizers take it for granted. Fairs have been canceled here and there and the Flower Parade will not take place in Rijnsburg in South Holland. The Frisian Championship Fierljeppen in Winsum has also been canceled.
Midden Zeeland Airport will cancel the Zeeland Flight Days (demonstrations and sightseeing flights) on Saturday, which will continue as usual on Sunday, and several events have also been canceled on Texel.
Wind force 8 on the coast
The KNMI has issued a yellow code for the coastal provinces. Weerplaza writes that the southwest wind can swell to a stormy wind force of 8 on the coast. The wind also blows strongly in the interior. The gusts of wind from 75 to 100 kilometers per hour cause nuisance.
In the morning there were several showers over the country, but in the afternoon it stays mostly dry. The temperature is between 20 and 25 degrees. During the course of Saturday evening the wind decreases, but on Sunday the wind is strong.

Wind whos in Noord-Holland
On Friday evening the summer weather in North Holland changed to thunder. This caused a whirlwind in Amsterdam, which caused further damage in North Holland. Reports were received from, among others, Bovenkarspel, Enkhuizen and Hem and from the Wadden Islands about fallen trees and fences. Here and there tiles have also fallen off the roofs.
According to the KNMI, a whirlwind is a whirlwind that often hangs like a funnel-shaped trunk under a thundercloud and pulls with it.
