10 August 2019At least one hundred victims of the monsoon floods in India. The international and local media report, citing the Indian authorities. The most affected state is the southern one of Kerala, but victims and missing are also counted in Maharastra and Karnataka. Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced: only 120,000 in Kerala have found refuge in the camps.

While bad weather is not abating, the government is trying to bring relief to isolated areas, even with the help of aerial vehicles. In one village there are 200 people blocked, to whom the rescue teams are trying to launch food from the planes. The last three days have been terrible, with at least 48 people dead in Kerala, an area very frequented even by tourists. In Karnataka, the dead recovered so far are 24 and 9 missing. At least 27 lost their lives in Maharashtra, where many roads are closed and many villages have remained isolated. Gujarat was also hit where eight people died in Ahmedabad and Nadiad. The main airport of Kerala, that of Kochi, has been closed since yesterday. Last year around 500 people died from the floods, among the worst of the century. For the next few days, precipitation will be reduced.
