A reconciliation meeting was held Friday in Lebanon between the Progressive Socialist Parties led by Walid Jumblatt and Lebanese Democrat Talal Arslan, in the presence of Presidents Michel Aoun, the government Saad Hariri and Parliament Nabih Berri. The meeting ended the political crisis that hampered the work of the Lebanese government for more than a month.

The crisis has erupted between the two poles of the Druze community in Lebanon because of the dispute over referring the file of the Mount Lebanon incident to the Council of Justice, as punctuated by accusations of trying to liquidate ministers and curtail political parties to foreign interests.

The incident, which dates back to June 30, led to the killing of two accomplices of the Minister of the Displaced Affairs Saleh al-Gharib affiliated with the Democratic Party and the injury of supporters of the Socialist Party.

The crisis has culminated in the past few days. Lebanese President Michel Aoun said that what happened was an ambush of Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, who was on a visit to the mountain on the day of the incident.

The US Embassy in Beirut has warned against inciting strife and called for dealing with the incident to achieve justice.

It also warned several of the negative repercussions of the political crisis on the difficult economic situation, and on loans that Lebanon promised to obtain from international bodies.

The new political crisis in Lebanon ended with a meeting called by the sponsors of frankness and reconciliation. The government will be faced with the test of re-meat between the components and mitigate the disparities, to pay attention to the pressure files, especially economic ones.
