The migration policy of Donald Trump is controversial again. While the US president was visiting Wednesday, August 7 in Texas and Ohio to comfort the victims of the shootings last weekend, the immigration police led one of the largest operations in the history of the country. Nearly 700 people were arrested, leaving dozens of children left to fend for themselves.

On Wednesday, the US Immigration Police (ICE) conducted a coordinated raid in five Mississippi cities. The 600 agents mobilized targeted seven factories.

The police arrived at 8 am, surrounded the buildings to prevent the workers from going out. A total of 680 people, mostly Hispanics, were arrested.

Those who have been able to prove that they were in the country legally have been released, but there are hundreds still in detention.

" Timing "

Wednesday was the first day of school, and at the end of classes, many children found themselves alone ... The lucky ones were recovered by neighbors, but dozens were taken to gyms.

These new arrests provoked many reactions, especially among the Democratic presidential candidates.

For Senator Kamala Harris, " These raids are meant to break families and spread fear ." Beto O'Rourke sees it as " a continuation of the policy of hatred towards immigrants ".

Many criticize the timing of these raids, just days after the shooting that mourned the El Paso Hispanic community .
