Winner of the presidential election of June 22, President Ghazouani appointed his first government Thursday, August 8.

The first government of President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani does not reflect a desire to break with the former regime of Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz. No opponent is part of the new team.

Even if the head of state has appealed to some known senior executives, like the former high commissioner of the development organization of the Senegal River, appointed Minister of the Interior, or Haimoud Ould Ramdane, a lawyer specializing in the defense of human rights who becomes Minister of Justice, Minister of Justice.

Another arrival is that of General Hanena Ould Sidi, the last commander of the G5 Sahel joint force, who becomes Minister of National Defense, and Taleb Ould Sid'Ahmed, a former Mauritanian television journalist and senior executive at the World Bank in Abidjan appointed to Employment, Youth and Sports.

Among the elders, President Ghazouani kept Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed at Foreign Affairs and Nani Ould Chrougha at the Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy. Ditto for his oil colleague Mohamed Abdel Vetah.

This government was appointed ten days after the inauguration of President Ghazouani. Among its challenges are the reform of the education system and a better distribution of national resources among all Mauritanians.
