It was this weekend that the annual race sailing Hermanö went on the West Coast. Earlier this year another boat event took place the weekend after - Smögen Poker Run. But this year, they both fell on the same weekend and that, according to the sailboat people, almost literally led to a collision.

- They came very quickly towards us and if someone had lost control or if a kayak had appeared behind one of the sailboats, it would have ended very badly, someone could have died, says Peter Gustafsson, skipper of the sailboat Blur who participated in race.

It was in the Hermanö trench, a relatively crowded sound, that the two groups met. Peter Gustafsson has posted a clip that has created strong reactions and discussions online. The clip shows how racing boats pass close and cross between sailboats and at one point the crew is heard upset screaming and gesturing towards a racing boat.

Smögen Poker Run at the same time as the racing sail Hermanö

According to Peter Gustafsson, the event is due to a lack of communication and coordination between the organizers.

- Our organizers have tried to coordinate with Smögen Poker Run, but without results, he says.

On the spot there was free speed, but according to Peter Gustafsson it does not matter.

- But the maritime regulations say that one should always adapt speed to prevailing circumstances and the behavior that some have shown is far from good seawater, he says.

SVT News West has tried to reach the person responsible for Smögen Poker Run, without success. However, the organizer of another Poker Run says:

- When we arrange a Poker Run, we are clear that each skipper is responsible for his boat and for following the shipping rules. Here, some people seem to have misbehaved and it is boring. There should be room for everyone in the archipelago and it is a pity that the organizers do not seem to have coordinated properly, says Mikael Hedberg, who organizes Smedjebacken Poker Run.

Must have thrown a hammer

SVT has also spoken to one of the participants in this weekend's race, who wants to be anonymous:

- I think it has become too big a thing for this. After all, no accident happened and we have better control over our boats than they think in the sailboats. Also, someone in a sailboat threw a hammer at one of our boats, if something is scary then it is, he says.

SVT News West has taken part in the film which shows when someone from a sailboat - who is not part of the race sail - looks to throw an object. According to the filmmaker, it was without a doubt a hammer.
