A long, thunderous and moving applause welcomed to Somma Vesuviana the arrival of the body of deputy brigadier Mario Cerciello Rega, killed in Rome on the night between 25 and 26 July. Waiting for the coffin, wrapped in the Tricolor, hundreds of people who, in a silence broken only by the ringing of the bells, followed the guard of honor that anticipated the entrance of the coffin into the Franciscan church of Santa Croce di Santa Maria del Corso.

The same passage from the Gospel read on the wedding day
Rosa Maria, Mario's widow, wanted the same passage from the Gospel of their marriage to be read, which occurred in the same church at Somma Vesuviana a month and a half ago. It is the passage of the Gospel of Matthew in which Jesus defines his disciples as the salt of the earth and the light of the world. "Today we would not have wanted to be in this Church in which some of you, a few weeks ago, were reunited by Mario and Maria Rosaria to celebrate the great mystery of love in joy", says Santo Marcianò, ordinary military archbishop for the Italy - A mystery that still touches us in a moving way through the Gospel that you, Maria Rosaria, wanted to read again today, because you had touched the strings of your heart on your wedding day, it was the feast of St. Anthony and Mario "We know he had chosen that date to feel his father Antonio from heaven even closer. Today, Mario calls us again, this time from the sky, and we, who still find it hard to believe it, are united by a sudden, heartbreaking pain that we feel unfair ".

The bishop: politicians learn the meaning of the state from Mario
"It is not our task to say whether we need stricter laws or just more just laws, but one thing we dare to ask you:" Put your heart into it! "So Archbishop Marcianò, during the homily." You too - he underlined, addressing the representatives of the institutions- of the life of others the meaning of your life, aware that what you operate or do not operate is aimed at concrete men: citizens and foreigners, men and women of the Armed Forces and law enforcement, to whom we can not renew the grace and encouragement of the Church and of the people! And if you, responsible for public affairs, and we all know better, from men like Mario, the sense of the State and the common good, Italy will rise again ".

The Deputy Prime Ministers Luigi Di Maio and Matteo Salvini, the Ministers Elisabetta Trenta (Defense) and Sergio Costa (Environment), the Speaker of the Chamber Roberto Fico, the Senate Vice-President Ignazio La Russa representing President Alberti Casellati: they are the representatives of the national institutions present at the funeral. With them the mayor of Rome, where Rega served, Virginia Raggi, and of Somma Vesuviana, birthplace of Rega, Salvatore Di Sarno. The representation of the weapon was very strong, with the commander general Giovanni Nistri.

Nistri: we ask for respect and gratitude, polemics are not the twelfth stab wound
"If it is granted to the general commander at this time to make requests, I would like them to turn into two words: respect and gratitude. Mario's heart was pierced by eleven stab wounds, it is good that we all avoid the twelfth stab, we need respect. The debates are right, they are legitimate, but let's keep them away, not today. And the tones are not the twelfth stab, "said the commander general of the carabinieri Giovanni Nistri, who spoke at the end of the funeral.
