- I think the Swedes are restless and want to discover something on the holiday. Nowadays it is much more important to come home with something more than a tan in the luggage, we want to get new impressions and not just lie in a lounger for a week, says Lina Eklund, PR specialist at Resia.

It is mainly large cities that have been at the top of the list of Swedes' travel destinations this summer. In June and July, it was London and Prague that were at the top of the list, according to a compilation of flight and train travelers' journeys in June and July, as Resia has done.

- There are big cities without beaches, which was a bit surprising, but many big cities in Europe have increased, says Lina Eklund.

She believes that it is above all family activities that attract travelers.

- In London, it is Harry Potter that applies, but also football and shopping.

US favorites are dropping

Despite the extreme heat of Paris in July, many Swedish tourists have traveled to the French capital.

- You take it easy during the day instead of rushing around. You sit in the shade and eat a croissant, swim in a pool or hang out at the hotel during the hottest hours, then do things in the evening instead, says Lina Eklund.

Fewer Swedes have chosen to travel to the United States this year, which may be due to the weak krona.

- We notice quite a big difference in trips to cities in the US when the krona is strong or weak as many go there to shop. When prices are not so favorable, then the Swedes choose other destinations. Then some say they don't want to go as long as Donald Trump is president, says Lina Eklund.

Trains go like the train

Many Swedish travelers choose the train to get out and about in Europe.

- We see a 110 percent increase in bookings with Interrail in Europe. The increase is obviously due to the fact that last year we did not have the same offer and offer around trains, but we also see a great interest in train travel, says Lina Eklund.

She believes that it is not only young people who are environmentally conscious who travel by train, but also families with children, elderly travelers and middle-aged couples.

- As the train takes longer, some save on holiday days by taking the flight one way and the train the other. In addition to the train providing a more sustainable journey, it also looks good in social media, says Lina Eklund.
