The United States must stop interfering in China’s internal affairs, including relations with Hong Kong. This was stated by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Hua Chunying.

“Hong Kong is Chinese territory. The Chinese people will not tolerate humiliation, the people's will not be deceived. We demand that America adheres to international law and the fundamental principles of international relations. We demand that she immediately stop trying to intervene in Hong Kong's affairs. We demand that she immediately stop interfering in China’s domestic policy, ”said Chunying.

Earlier in the Hong Kong newspaper Ta Kung Pao, material was published on the meeting of leaders of the Hong Kong protest movement with US diplomat Julia Edeh.

This is very very embarrassing. Julie Eadeh, a US diplomat in Hong Kong, was caught meeting HK protest leaders. It would be hard to imagine the US reaction if Chinese diplomat were meeting leaders of Occupy Wall Street, Black Lives Matter or Never Trump protesters. pic.twitter.com/JfiU2O2HZq

The Hong Kong branch of the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the US Consulate General for contacts with protest leaders and required explanation.

However, later the head of the State Department’s press service, Morgan Ortegus, stated that she was not aware of the formal protest from the Chinese side. At the same time, Ortegus accused Beijing of revealing personal information about a certain diplomat and his children. True, no specific details were provided.

“I do not consider this an official protest, this is what gangster regimes are doing. Responsible states do not behave like that, ”she said.

The representative of the State Department also indicated that the meetings of American diplomats with politicians and opposition figures from different countries are Washington’s normal practice.

In response, the Chinese Foreign Ministry called on Ortegus to continue to ponder his words and actions.

“The State Department spokesperson should first rethink their own words. Do not cling to media reports and, under this pretext, blame the governments of other countries, let alone distort the truth and bring the blame on the healthy, trying to cover up US interference in China’s internal affairs, ”said Chunying.

Along with this, Chinese political experts made the connection between the US National Endowment for Democracy * and the riots in Hong Kong.

Earlier, Beijing has repeatedly called on Washington to "objectively assess" the events in Hong Kong and to stop contacts between US politicians and demonstrators.

Recall that since the beginning of June, mass protests have been held in Hong Kong. The reason for the beginning of the opposition’s speeches was the consideration of the law on the extradition of suspects of crimes from a special administrative region to mainland China. After a series of demonstrations, legislative initiative was removed from the agenda, but anti-government protests continued.

At the same time, in July, an initiative called the "Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act" was submitted to the US Congress. The document obliges the US State Department to check Hong Kong’s autonomy status annually to justify the special situation it is in. In addition, according to the draft law, the president will have to impose sanctions against those responsible for “suppressing fundamental rights and freedoms in Hong Kong”.

“The power of America has been and always will be in our values. We cannot stand aside when the rights of the people of Hong Kong are violated by China, ”said Senator Democrat Ben Cardin.

“Intervention is a strong point of the USA”

The United States considers it possible for itself to intervene in the internal affairs of other countries, stated Dmitry Solonnikov, director of the Institute for Contemporary State Development.

"As you know," if you do not have democracy, then we will fly to you. " Intervening right up to the overthrow of regimes is a mission that the United States ascribes to itself in the modern world. The United States around the world supports the movements that they call free and democratic. The United States supports those movements that, in their opinion, are fighting authoritarian regimes. The Americans will finance such structures, give them the opportunity of information support, some kind of consultation. This is their hobby, ”remarked the interlocutor of RT.

In turn, an expert at the International Institute for Humanitarian and Political Studies, Vladimir Bruter, noted the duality of Washington’s position.

“When the United States talks about the inadmissibility of the alleged Russian interference in the internal affairs of the United States, in the elections, they are talking not about one thing, but about two. They say that everyone is forbidden to touch the American theme. But the United States, at the same time, is allowed to touch any subject, since "America is the greatest country in the world" and "the owner of democracy." The USA decides whether they can intervene or not, whether the regime is democratic or not, whether it requires changes, ”he explained.

According to him, China has now faced such a policy, where there is discontent in Hong Kong, but no one allowed the United States to intervene in the resolution of purely domestic disputes.

“All that the Americans say is a set of fakes. If we are consistent, the United States will have no other options but to admit that they are ready to intervene in any political situation, if it suits them. This is a continuation of Washington’s anti-Chinese policy. This is all part of American politics around the world. Americans treat everyone like that, believe that everyone else is a consumable item, ”concluded Bruther in an interview with RT.
