August 08, 2019The mother of 21-year-old Patrick Crusius, the author of the shooting that killed 22 people in El Paso, had called the Allen, Texas police department a few weeks before the massacre because she was worried about her son who owned a weapon assault. The family's lawyers told CNN.

The mother contacted the police because she was concerned that her son possessed the weapon given his age, maturity and lack of experience in handling such a weapon, lawyers Chris Ayres and R said Jack Ayres.

The woman's call was transferred to a public security officer who told her that - based on her description of the situation - her son, 21, was legally authorized to buy the weapon. The mother did not provide her name or her son's name and the police did not seek any additional information. It is not known whether the weapon the mother spoke of is the one used in the attack.
