• Aragon: A man commits suicide after killing his son and injuring his partner in Teruel
  • Machismo: A third of the 37 sexist murderers this year committed suicide

A total of 38 women have been killed so far this year at the hands of their partners or former partners, a figure that had not occurred since 2011. In the last decade, only the year 2010 was worse with 43 deaths. In addition, there is a case under investigation pending confirmation as gender violence, according to data from the Ministry of the Presidency and Equality collected by Servimedia.

Last year around this time the women killed were 24, that is, 14 less than in 2019, while in 2017 the number of deaths as of August 6 was 36, two less than now. In 2016, the number of women killed was 30 and in 2015, 29. In 2014 until August 6, 35 women had lost their lives; 33 in 2013, one less in 2012 and 38 in 2011, as now.

In annual terms, 2008 continues to hold, for now, the record of murdered women, with 76; followed by the year 2010, with 72 dead women; while in the years 2003 and 2007, 71 women died at the hands of their partners or former partners. Since the data is counted, the number of women killed is 1,013 and the number of children killed is already 30.

The Vice President of the Government Minister of Equality in office, Carmen Calvo, who visited the VioGén Protection System in Madrid yesterday , warned that the number of complaints has fallen by 10%, so she urged not only the threatened women, but also the environment to which these complaints are filed because "the complaint is the only way to put in place the protection and help mechanisms for these women".

"Strong discussion" the day before in the last sexist crime

The delegate of the Government in Aragon , Carmen Sánchez , explained today that the 41-year-old man who allegedly murdered his 16-year-old son on Wednesday in Andorra (Teruel) and seriously injured his partner and mother of the minor, 39, He had had a "strong discussion" with her last Tuesday that led her mother and son to leave the family home.

In statements provided by the Delegation of Government, Sanchez said that both had returned home Wednesday, where the events occurred at around 6 pm.

The man allegedly murdered his son with a knife, seriously injured his partner and then committed suicide by throwing himself through the window of his home, on a fourth floor.

Sanchez, who has expressed his "deep pain and outrage at the sexist crime," recalled that Ishmael would be the third minor killed by his father or his mother's partner so far this year in Spain.

He also pointed out that in this case there were no previous complaints of mistreatment by women and he has asked "the whole society" for a unanimous response of conviction. "There can be no doubts or dissonant words, we all have to be in the same: defend the victims and throw the abusers and murderers on our side," he emphasized.

The Government delegate also conveys her condolences to the family for the death of the young man and his wish that Gema, who remains in the ICU of the Miguel Servet de Zaragoza hospital, can recover from the serious injuries caused by her partner and father of his son. | EFE
