The flight, especially domestic, fell significantly in the second quarter, according to new statistics from Swedavia which operates the largest airports in Sweden.

The number of domestic passengers fell by as much as 10.5 percent during the period April-June compared to the same period last year. At the same time, foreign passengers were two percent fewer.

Landwetters stand out

In total, the number of passengers at Swedavia's ten airports decreased by half a million to 10.7 million.

The decrease is also noticeable on Landvetter, especially among domestic passengers. In the first half of this year, the number of domestic passengers decreased by 14 percent. At the same time, the airport stands out with an increase of one percent in terms of foreign passengers.

"Landvetter has a better traffic development than overall development at Swedavia's airports, which is primarily driven by increased foreign travel and several new routes that have opened during the spring," says Robert Pletzin, Swedavia's press chief.

"We see a slowdown"

In total, 2.6 million foreign passengers from Landvetter lifted during the first half of the year, and due to the fact that domestic traffic accounts for a minor part, with about 600,000 passengers, the total stop for the airport of about 2 percent fewer passengers stops compared to the same period last year.

According to Swedavia, the decline is explained by a somewhat weaker Swedish economy, the weakening of the krona and an increased climate debate. The air tax, as well as the pilot strike against SAS, also affects the month-end April / May.

- Yes, that's the big general explanation. We see a slowdown since last autumn in both domestic and international traffic. But Gothenburg stands out in terms of international traffic, says Robert Pletzin.
