  • Brexit.Boris Johnson rules out new elections: "People have asked us Brexit"

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will hold elections in the United Kingdom in the days following Brexit if Parliament plunges its government with a motion of censure, the Financial Times reports Thursday, citing unidentified senior attendees of the first Minister.

The Financial Times says its aides expect it to face a vote of confidence shortly after Westminster returns from his summer vacation.

"We cannot stop being forced to call elections, but we control the calendar, so we are going to force the date until after October 31 (the day when the United Kingdom will leave the European Union)," he says a senior Downing Street official according to the aforementioned medium. "If there should be general elections, it will be days after October 31."

Another collaborator close to Johnson has not denied that the elections would be held in the first days of November.
