A male suspect in his 50s who was threatening terrorism at the Aichi Triennale was arrested by the police.

The 59-year-old Hotta Shuji sent a fax to the organizers on Tuesday that he will riot with gasoline unless he immediately stops exhibiting the Peace Girl Award.

The organizer discontinued the Girl Awards in three days, saying the faxes and threatening phones threatened safety.

Yesterday (7th) another man was arrested by police after spraying gasoline at an exhibition hall.

Japanese cultural and civic groups contend that the cessation of the exhibition because of terrorist threats and political pressure is a fundamental threat to freedom of expression.

In addition to the participating artists and the Japan Playwrights' Association, the Federation of Japanese Art Critics also called for the resumption of the Girl Award.
