Sex crimes have a growing trend in recent years, with a special impact on aggressions, the cases that most concern society in recent times, especially following the proliferation of herds in different parts of Spain. The last example was the case of Bilbao, in which six young people were arrested for raping an 18-year-old girl in a park.

The controversy generated after the release of four of the detainees and their laughter recorded in a video on the way out of the court have caused the outrage of many associations and also of politicians.

Just yesterday, the president of the Vizcaya PP and spokesman at the Bilbao City Council , Raquel González , said that this last group violation of a young woman in Bilbao is “the icing on the cake, disgusting and delectable” of the “growing insecurity”, and He denounced that the Menas (unaccompanied foreign minors) are "uncontrolled", although in this case the detainees are not minors, since the six are between 18 and 36 years old. In addition, the mayor, Juan Mari Aburto , offered to solve the "growth" of crime "with a firm hand and an end to goodism," reports Europa Press. Gonzalez insisted that "crime is growing, we have already had 40% more sexual assaults this year and we were coming from a year that had risen 68%" and asked "what is the percentage to be reached for this to stop ».

But it is not only Bilbao or the Basque Country where aggressions have grown. According to statistical data from the Ministry of Interior , the trend since 2012 is to increase abuse and aggression to cover 75% of sexual crimes, while the rest of typologies, such as child pornography, sexual harassment or crimes related to Prostitution has a tendency to go down or at least not to go up that much.

By taking the latest data, from the balance sheet of the first quarter of this year, 377 crimes of sexual assault with penetration have been recorded throughout Spain (one less than in the same period of 2018). Catalonia and Andalusia is where these aggressions have increased the most, from 110 to 122 and from 40 to 54, respectively for the first quarters of 2018 and 2019.

In the Basque Country, on the other hand, this data has been reduced from 28 to 24, and the same has happened with the rest of sexual crimes in this region, which have decreased by 28% in the respective quarters of 2018 and 19.

However, in the national total, this year there has been a growth of 18.8% in sexual crimes throughout the territory. For using the latest available annual figures, in 2012 there were 9,008 sexual crimes (1,280 of them aggressions with penetration), when in 2017 those figures were 11,692 and 1,382.

As for detainees for rapes or similar crimes, the figures currently available are 2017: 1,089 arrested for sexual assault and 865 for sexual assault with penetration.

You can also consult the Ministry for information on minors arrested for these crimes: 88 minors for sexual assault (61 of them Spanish, 27 foreigners) and 52 for sexual assault with penetration (41 Spanish, 11 foreigners).

Of these last figures, it should be noted that more than half of all children were arrested in Andalusia and Madrid. In Andalusia, there were 29 minors arrested for sexual assault and 15 for aggression with penetration, between Spaniards and foreigners. In Madrid, 18 and 15. Except for a case in Madrid of a young woman, all the minors arrested were boys.
