Borgholm and Mönsterås are two of eight municipalities in Småland that have a water ban. In Mönsterås, the irrigation ban was introduced in June and is valid until further notice. The ban applies during the summer period when a lot of drinking water is used to irrigate grass, hedges and to fill pools. This causes problems when nature's water reservoir does not have time to fill at the same rate.

- The prohibition of irrigation does not allow municipal water to be used to water lawns, flowers or the like in gardens with sprinklers or hoses. Nor can you fill or replace water in pools larger than 3 cubic meters, says Anders Lindholm, CEO of Bergholms Energi.

Unlike Mönsterås, the municipality of Borgholm has plenty of water, but still has an irrigation ban every year, which is something the municipal council has decided.

- Now we could handle up to eight years of drought, but we have the irrigation ban due to high pressure drop in the pipes when we have a lot of tourists here during the summers, then water would also be a problem. Why we do not procure larger pipes is because the water will stand still during the winter and it is not good, says Anders Lindholm, CEO Bergholms Energi.
