Here the stranded beak whales are rescued

Three beak whales were rescued on Sunday after being stranded in the Åbyfjord outside the Nordic Ark in Sotenäs municipality, something that P4 West was the first to tell.

- There were guests for us who were out walking when they saw the stranded whales and alerted our staff. Then things went pretty fast, says Mats Höggren, CEO of Nordens Ark.

Unexpected visit

Several of the staff went out into the water and, after diligent work, released the whales that could swim out to deeper water. Beak whales are very uncommon in the area and have hardly been seen in the water there.

- It was very strange, unusual and dramatic. My co-workers were almost euphoric after they came out of the water, says Mats Höggren, who filmed the event.

Later the same day, a private person reported that a dead beak had been found in the same fjord, which is believed to be one of the whales stranded on the Ark of the North.
