A military helicopter with two Guinean air force officers on board crashed in the sea on Tuesday off the coast of Conakry, the army said.

"The search is continuing (...) to find Colonel Abdoulaye Diallo and Sub-Lieutenant Sékou Condé off the coast of Conakry, after the crash of their helicopter" in the morning, said a statement from the Public Relations Department of the United States. army (Dirpa).

The army specifies that "all the human and material means are mobilized by the Ministry of National Defense" and that "the families of the two pilots have been informed of the accident by the staff of the armies".

The Dirpa does not indicate the causes of the accident, but very heavy rains fall on the Guinean capital for several days.

The "Squirrel" type device crashed at sea near the Onomo Hotel, located on the Kaloum Peninsula, an administrative district of Conakry, according to local media and witnesses.

Colonel Diallo is an instructor of the Guinean air force and was giving a pilot training to second lieutenant Condé at the time of the accident.

In addition to his military activities, Sékou Condé is a mathematician who teaches at a high school in Conakry.
