07 August 2019After 5 hours of Council Chamber, the Court of Cassation has decided: crimes prescribed for Umberto Bossi and Francesco Belsito in the proceeding on the fraud for the electoral reimbursements of the League. But the confiscation of the 49 million is confirmed and final. Cancel without condemnation the personal convictions and confiscations for the then leader of the League and the former treasurer of the party. Belsito remains responsible for embezzlement: for him there will be the re-determination of the sentence in Appeal.

According to the prosecution, the party had obtained electoral reimbursements against the Parliament between 2008 and 2010, falsifying reports and the budget. S
The judges also confirmed the confiscation of the 49 million to the League, while personal confiscations fall.

"These are years that go on with these 49 million, nothing changes to me. It doesn't change my life," said party leader and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini.

Confirm the sentence to 3 years and 9 months to the ex-treasurer of the League Francesco Belsito, and to a year and 10 months for Umberto Bossi in the trial on the maxi-fraud against the State on 49 million of repayments to the League. This was requested by the deputy public prosecutor of the Cassation, Marco Dall'Olio.

The confirmation of the judgment of the Genoa Court of Appeal of 26 November 2018 also involves the confirmation of the confiscation of the 49 million euros of electoral reimbursements used for illegitimate purposes thanks to the falsification of the financial statements from 2008 to 2010.

"Conduct fraudulent", "very different from misappropriation". This is what was reported by the deputy pg of the Cassation in its indictment. "The evidentiary system is free of uncertainties that cannot be questioned," the prosecutor said asking for confirmation of the convictions of Bossi and Belsito.

The magistrate has asked the college of the sixth section that the appeals of Bossi and Belsito be declared "inadmissible", that a new trial be ordered for the former auditors of the Northern League (even if this will entail a prescription of the crime) and for Belsito the declaration from the interdiction of public offices for five years, because it is not reported in the appeal sentence.

The request for objection made by the former treasurer of the League, Francesco Belsito - accused in the trial on fraud against the State for electoral reimbursements - against the judges of the entire college of the Cassation was therefore rejected. The judges are meeting in the council chamber and the sentence is therefore expected in the evening.
