Minister Kono, who has visited four island countries such as Palau in the South Pacific for the first time in 32 years as a foreign minister in Japan, has met with ministers from various countries, and China is gaining influence in this region. In light of this, our policy is to strengthen relationships through maritime security cooperation.

Foreign Minister Kono visited the four island countries of the South Pacific for the first time in 32 years as a Japanese Foreign Minister on the 4th to 9th of this month.

On the 6th, they visited Palau and met with the Minister of State of Margues, and they agreed to promote assistance for improving the capabilities of marine security and rescue of maritime disasters, as well as cooperation for the enhancement of tourism policies.

Prior to the meeting, Minister Kono visited Peleliu, a fierce battlefield of the Pacific War, and laid flowers on the memorial monument of the war dead.

On the 7th, they visited Micronesia, met with President Panuelo, and agreed to continue to cooperate in the stable operation of Japanese tuna fishing boats in this area.

Minister Kono will visit the Marshall Islands on the 8th.

Japan's policy is to strengthen relations with each country based on the fact that China is increasing its influence through the development of huge infrastructure in this region.
