2019-08-07T17:29:07.121Z

SVT's Claes JB Löfgren explains the background to the tense situation around the Strait of Hormuz - and what can happen next. - Without traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the entire world's economic engine starts to hack, he says.

The conflict in the Persian Gulf seemed to calm in 2015, when Iran signed an agreement with the United States, the EU and Russia to stop producing materials that could be used in the production of nuclear weapons. But the agreement was short-lived. A year ago, the United States passed the agreement, something that President Trump promised to implement already during the 2016 presidential election.

"Although his own intelligence service reported that Iran has kept its part of the agreement," says Claes JB Löfgren.

Hear him tell you more about the sacking, the sanctions against Iran and which parties stand in the conflict in the clip.
