• Fire. 112 points out that the fire in the Madrid town of Miraflores could be intentional
  • Sierra de Madrid. The Miraflores fire and the La Granja fire are extended to Rascafría

The fires originating this Sunday in Miraflores de la Sierra (Madrid) and La Granja (Segovia) have evolved favorably after an intense work day in which the llamas have burned 300 hectares in Segovia , half in the territory of the Guadarrama National Park , and another 300 in the Community of Madrid .

Nearly 300 troops have been working for more than 24 hours on these two forest fires and have concentrated their efforts on that of La Granja, which already affects the municipality of Rascafría , in the Community of Madrid.

The forest fire declared in the Royal Site of San Ildefonso-La Granja, in Segovia , is still active, although the high part of the affected mountains "is somewhat more stabilized" , and has devastated some 300 hectares. "Half of it is located in the Guadarrama National Park, " explained the Junta de Castilla y León.

This event has also caused the Royal Palace of La Granja and its gardens to remain closed to the public for security reasons while the fire lasts.

The origin of the flames was half a kilometer from the walls of the gardens of the Royal Palace , but the fire did not advance towards the monument due to the wind and the situation of the land.

For its part, the Miraflores de la Sierra has seen about 300 hectares burn, an event that could be intended. "Everything indicates that it is not a natural phenomenon," explained the director of the Madrid 112 Security and Emergency Agency, Carlos Novillo.

A "little regrowth"

Due to the wind changes there has been a "small regrowth" in the area, which has been controlled by air means. "It is not more serious, but it will force us to be very aware," he said.

Regarding the work on the burned land in Rascafría, Novillo explained that in the Madrid area there is "some tranquility", since "there is practically no wind" and the land means, about 130 troops, are ready to act at night.

However, the Madrid director has been cautious in the work of controlling the flames in both fires due to the high temperatures . "We will see how the behavior of the wind develops tonight and tomorrow," he added.

Both incidents have had the participation of the firefighters of the Community of Madrid, the Junta de Castilla y León and the Military Emergency Unit (UME).

The UME has moved 141 military personnel and 41 media to work on direct attack and perimetration on the left flank of the Segovia fire, in coordination with the amphibious aircraft of the Air Force.

The general director of Natural Heritage and Forest Policy of Castilla y León , José Ángel Arranz, has explained to the media that neither of the two flanks that the fire has are controlled.

Of the two fronts that exist, there is a right flank towards Valsaín that worries more "when entering a pine forest with the wind against it and very slowly, but it does not rise to the glasses, it is in danger; and on the left flank there is not much danger".

The llamas also moved to Madrid, to the municipality of Rascafría, where it burned ten hectares of land, at an altitude of 2,000 meters, although it did not affect the homes of the town, as explained by his mayor, Santiago Marcos.
