August 04, 2019The family of Finnegan Lee Elder, one of the two young Americans accused of the murder of deputy sergeant Mario Cerciello Rega on July 26 in Rome, let San Francisco know through a lawyer that they hope "the truth will come out and our son come home soon ".

"We have the impression that public opinion has had an incomplete account of the truth of the events," lawyer Craig Peters read in front of the Elder house in San Francisco.

Peters read a brief statement in front of the home of Finnegan Elder's parents in San Francisco in which the family also expresses its condolences for the military's death. Elder's own parents attended the reading of the note, after which the lawyer did not accept questions. "We continue to have this family in our thoughts and pray for them in this difficult time," he added illegally. The statement was issued after the visit of Finnegan Elder's father, Ethan, in Rome, where he visited his 19-year-old son in prison.

Investigators reported that the young man confessed to a stabbing incident. According to court documents, Elder said he believed a "strange man" wanted to strangle him, and did not know that Cerciello was a carabiniere in civilian clothes.
