• Italy: It will continue with fines of 10,000 to 50,000 euros to rescue NGOs in the Mediterranean
  • Salvini Authorizes the landing of 116 migrants to redistribute them between five EU countries

The Italian Upper Chamber converts the decree law on security, the symbol reform of the Interior Minister and leader of the League, Matteo Salvini, definitively and with a large majority. The rule, already in force for several weeks, stiffens, for example, fines against humanitarian NGOs that are responsible for rescuing migrants in the Mediterranean. Fines can reach up to 50,000 euros for those humanitarian vessels that, without prior authorization from the Italian authorities, can enter the country's territorial waters.

"This decree law," said Matteo Salvini, "gives more power to state security forces and bodies: more border controls, more men to arrest gangsters, " said the vice president of the Italian Government through the Facebook social network once the result of the vote is known. Stresses the neutral behavior in the right wing of the Upper House, among the natural allies of Salvini. The senators of the Brothers of Italy of Giorgia Meloni have abstained and the parliamentarians of Forza Italia , the party of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, have not participated in the vote even though they were present in the classroom. "Nobody is going to spoil me this day," Salvini said in relation to who would be his allies in a future new coalition government with the Matteo Salvini League in front, regardless of Luigi Di Maio's 5 Star Movement .

Applause among the ranks of the Salvini League, protests in those of the opposition represented by the Democratic Party (PD) : "The Salvini law decree has already been approved, Italy is now more insecure," explains its secretary general, Nicola Zingaretti . And he adds: "Thanks to the slaves of the 5 Star Movement the situation in the cities and neighborhoods will remain the same, it will get worse. The crime will thank, while the people, however, will continue to feel alone with a rising fear. " In the Senate, shouts of "Shame, shame!" pronounced by several parliamentarians of the PD.

The current Italian Government, chaired by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte , is the result of the strange crystallized coalition just over a year ago between the Luigi Di Maio 5 Star Movement and Matteo Salvini League. In the 2018 general elections, the M5E obtained 33% of the consensus and the League 17%. But after a year of permanent campaign on the street and on the networks by Salvini, the last European elections in May have caused the two government partners to have exchanged the percentages. For this reason, the 5 Star Movement is simply the most voted party, on paper: it is the League, currently the country's first political formation in the form of a boot.

The vote, which took place late in the afternoon in Rome, required confidence, so it needed not only the majority for approval, but the stability of the Italian Government would have depended on it. With a total of 289 present and 238 voters, the majority required 109 yeses. Finally, there have been 160 yeses, 57 noes and 21 abstentions . The stability of the Executive remains weak in a climate where both government partners are always threatening to abandon everything and go to the vote. For this reason, the Executive put on the vote today, as a requirement, a motion of confidence. It will be a scene that will also be repeated this Wednesday, in relation to the works of the Turin-Lion AVE , one of the great political issues of the last decades in the country and that will face the partners of a government that is closer to falling.
