04 March 2019Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree to suspend the Inf Treaty for nuclear disarmament. The medium-range missile control agreement was signed in 1987 by Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev. In December it was the US that first announced the intention to leave the treaty, accusing Moscow of violations.

"Given the need to take urgent measures following the violation by the United States of the obligations arising from the treaty, signed by the Soviet Union and the United States on December 8, 1987, Russia's accession to the Inf treaty is suspended until when the United States does not comply with the obligations established by the treaty or until the treaty is terminated ", the decree states. The Russian foreign ministry was tasked with sending a suspension notice to the United States.
