• Open Arms saves 123 migrants, two more mini landings in Lampedusa

03 August 2019The ship Alan Kurdi owned by the German NGO Sea Eye is traveling to Malta after the Italian government rejected the request of the ship's captain to land in Lampedusa. Yesterday the Sea Eye saved 40 migrants on a rubber boat 29 nautical miles off Libya. The migrants were brought on board the ship Alan Kurdi, among them also a pregnant woman and several minors. The people saved come from various countries including Congo, Nigeria, Mali, Ghana and Ivory Coast. This year, Malta has already welcomed over 1,100 migrants.

The other humanitarian ship coming is the Spanish Open arms, which between yesterday and last night, with a double intervention, took 123 people on board. Libyan coast guard rescues 75 people
A patrol boat of the Libyan coast guard, the "Zaouia", belonging to the western sector of the naval forces of the government of Tripoli, rescued yesterday, "75 illegal migrants", including three women, aboard a raft in difficulty to north of Farwa, not far from the border with Tunisia.

This was announced by the Facebook page of the Libyan Navy's information office stating that relief efforts are of various nationalities: 7 from Sudan, 14 from Somalia, 5 from Algeria, 22 from Morocco and 27 from Bangladesh. "Illegal migrants were transferred to the port of Zaouia where they arrived around 4:00 pm," the statement reads. "After being provided with humanitarian and medical assistance, they were handed over to the reception center of al Nasr of the authority for the fight against illegal immigration of Zaouia," the note concludes.
