The Wattasab platform began naming "Forward" messages as "Redirected Messages" if they were redirected more than five times to the Android and iOS app.

Previously, the service had shown one arrow to indicate that the message was redirected, and the new label is available to all users who have installed the latest version of the Wattabapp application.

The Facebook-owned company is trying to limit the spread of counterfeit news through its platform.

The update comes amid growing criticism about the misinformation of two of its biggest markets: India and Brazil.

The company says in common questions: To maintain privacy within Wattab, we limit how to forward the message. When you forward a message, you can choose to share it with up to five conversations at once.

When a message is redirected from one user to another more than five times, the application refers to that message with a double-arrow symbol, but does not specify how often the message is forwarded, like all other messages sent to Wattab.

The platform introduced a number of product changes as a result of strong criticism from civil society and governments, including a reduction in the number of people and groups to whom users can forward messages.
