Things are accelerating in Sudan. The agreement on the transition concluded Saturday, August 3 between the military and civilians was initialed this Sunday, August 4, by both parties and will be signed on August 17. The formation of the Sovereign Council, a new body that will manage the transition, will be announced on August 18 and the composition of a government will be put in place by the end of this August.

The initialling intervened at the end of the morning of this Sunday, with a little delay. The mediation hoped that it could be signed as early as Saturday night but it was necessary to integrate the provisions of another agreement that had been signed a fortnight ago between the military and rebels of the Revolutionary Front of Sudan. This was explained to RFI one of the spokespersons of the challenge.

Other documents are being finalized and should be added to constitute what is called the global agreement that will be officially signed in two weeks, that is to say on August 17th. It is the celebrations of Eid next week that delay this signing.

As for the timetable for setting up institutions, it is recorded. The members of the Sovereign Council will be appointed on August 18th. The Sovereign Council is one of the executive bodies that includes six civilians and five military and will be led by a military for the first year and a half of transition.

The prime minister, civil, will be appointed on August 20 and members of the government on August 28.

As for Parliament, it will be in place 90 days after the signing of the agreement. In the meantime, the legislative power will be in the hands of the Sovereign Council and the government.

Eleven commissions should also be set up, including commissions on human rights and electoral issues, which are dear to the protesters.
