Egyptian Minister of Supply Ali al-Muselhi told a press conference on Saturday that "the ministry omitted eight million citizens from the system of (catering) food support, and will not add baby food cards to any family of four individuals and more."

He added that his ministry has an integrated database of citizens benefiting from the support, after linking the databases of the ministries of communications, finance, interior, military production and administrative control.

The number of citizens support system to 71 million, after the deletion of eight million of non-eligible, which saved a lot of lost support funds, he said.

The Ministry of Supply has set 12 new standards in the fourth phase of the process of "purification" cards supporting ration goods and bread, including:

  • Mohammed, who consumes electricity more than a thousand kilowatts per month.

  • Mohammed owns more than three cars.

  • Which pays an added value tax of more than two hundred thousand pounds (about 12 thousand dollars) annually.

  • Which pays taxes more than one hundred thousand pounds (about six thousand dollars) annually.

  • Mohammed has the latest car models in 2013.

  • The family has agricultural holdings of more than 15 acres.

  • Mohammed, who pays export customs more than one hundred thousand pounds annually.

  • Morocco, which pays customs imports more than one hundred thousand pounds annually.

  • A family that exceeds the value of its mobile phone bill is more than eight hundred pounds (about $ 48) per month.

  • Mohammed spends school expenses more than fifty thousand pounds (about three thousand dollars) annually.

  • The family, which has a government salary, is more than 15 thousand pounds (about nine hundred dollars) per month.

  • A family with a higher career (not specified).

Reduce support
The ministry will begin to delete the citizens who meet these standards from the support system at the end of this month, according to the Minister of Supply.

The reduction of subsidies is one of the conditions of the International Monetary Fund to grant Egypt a loan of 12 billion dollars, of which received 10 billion dollars.

The government has taken a number of harsh measures, including the liberalization of the pound exchange rate, raising the prices of fuel, electricity, water and public transport, and increasing fees and taxes.

The number of poor people rose to 32.5% of the population in 2017-2018, compared to 27.8% in 2015-2016, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.
