Stockholm (AP) - After several days in court in Stockholm, the American musician Asap Rocky is back in the US.
The 30-year-old rapper ("Praise the Lord") took off late Friday evening with a private jet from Stockholm-Arlanda Airport and landed several hours later on Saturday night in Los Angeles, as shown by Swedish media and US television CBSLA , Photos previously stated how the musician, after the end of the negotiation and the announcement of his release until the verdict was announced, sat happily in a vehicle.
In his first Instagram message for a month, the 30-year-old thanked his fans and supporters. "It has been a very difficult and humiliating experience," he wrote on the social network. He could not put into words how grateful he was for the support received in recent weeks. He also wanted to thank the court for allowing him and his companions to return to their families and friends.
In that case, alongside superstars such as reality TV personality Kim Kardashian and pop singer Justin Bieber, even US President Donald Trump stood up for the release of Asap Rocky. The whole thing culminated in a diplomatic exchange between Washington and Stockholm, in which the Swedish government repeatedly referred to the independence of the judiciary in their country. Nevertheless Trump bitterly railed against the Swedes and said via Twitter, he was very disappointed by Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and his inability to act in the process very disappointed.
Asap Rocky and several of his companions had been involved in a violent confrontation in Stockholm at the end of June. The rapper and two other men from his entourage were arrested in early July, remanded and finally charged with assault on July 25. During the trial this week, they admitted they had beaten and kicked a 19-year-old. They said they had felt threatened by the man and acted in self-defense.
The prosecution demanded six months in jail on Friday for the three defendants, while the defender of Asap Rocky demanded his immediate release. The competent Stockholm District Court released the three Americans until sentencing, after four weeks in custody. The verdict is to be announced on August 14th.
