In an interview with "L'Obs", Brigitte Jullien, head of the IGPN, rejected criticisms and questions about the investigation of the disappearance of Steve Maia Caniço, saying that this report "was not written on a corner of the table "

The IGPN administrative inquiry into the controversial intervention of the police on the night of the Music Festival in Nantes did not "clear the police", says its director in an interview published Saturday on the site from Obs .

"We have not cleared the police, this is what we hear in a loop for days, but it is false," said the boss of the Inspectorate General of the National Police Brigitte Jullien. According to a summary made public on Tuesday, the report of the "police of the police" could not establish a link between the action of the police on the evening of 21 June quai Wilson in Nantes and the disappearance in the same sector of Steve Maia Caniço, whose body was found Monday in the river.

"People were absolutely waiting for a conviction from the police"

Several rallies in tribute to the young man of 24 years are held Saturday in France, including Nantes where incidents have erupted. "People were absolutely waiting for a conviction from the police, no other response was understandable at that time," she added, adding that the report "was not written on a corner of the table". The document has been the subject of heated criticism and questioning, both by the lawyer of the young man's family and by politicians or participants at the party, none of whom were heard in the proceedings.

"A judicial inquiry has been opened (...) .The witnesses will be questioned. The administrative investigation does not have this function", justified David Chantreux, head of the investigation coordination unit IGPN, also interviewed by the Obs.
"The administrative investigation is focused on the action of the agents of the administration (...) The agents have no authority to hear other people," he added. The IGPN report's summary, however, asserted that "none of the rescuers reported that they had been pushed by the police to throw themselves, and none attributed the fall to this action" .

Interior Minister Christophe Castaner acknowledged Friday that there was still a "questioning on the use of tear gas" during the police intervention on the evening of the Music Festival in Nantes.
